First of the Month Photos

I know, it's not the first of the month. Sorry - I've been a tad busy. However these photos WERE taken on August first. The field has made great progress. So, I present to you the field, and what's growing in it:

First of the Month Photos!

Things are a'growing on Seven Cats Farm!

That's a pretty quick view, so let's look a little closer!

Although this is not a glamorous photo, this is the #1 change in both the field and the orchard. DRIP LINE!!!!! Woot! There are so many reasons this is a big deal, but let's just say for now that my time has been freed up TREMENDOUSLY. Many many many thanks to The Lovey, Number One Son and The Neighbor's Son. These guys were instrumental in connecting all this, checking it for leaks and making quick work of something that would have alone, taken me a week to do.

But now let's see some other stuff!

First of the Month Photo

It's a little late, but here it is:

You can compare it to last month's photo here. The hillside is not so green. The garlic and fava are out. Tomatoes are in and staked. The calendula are showing up much more! We put in a trellis for the pole beans we're growing. Now if the crows would just stop eating them. Ugh!

First of the Month Photo

May 1st photo. Doesn't look like much, but here is the field. I think it looks beautiful. For all those of you who saw the field over the winter, you will notice that the weeds (those waist-high weeds that grew during my farming hiatus) are gone. Well, most of them....

There is a LOT of borage volunteers, which is great because it's bringing in the bees. The garlic is almost ready to harvest. There are a few rows of fava beans growing. In the back is lettuce, fennel, chard and kale. The beets and carrots are just starting to show their heads. And the row that is covered is planted in beans. I'm keeping the cover on until they have grown big enough so they are no longer attractive to the crows.
