Our first sale of the season was to The Chaminade Resort and Spa. Executive Chef Beverlie Terra requested 30 heads of lettuce.
We harvested in the morning, rinsed and boxed right after, then packed up the milk truck and drove to Santa Cruz.
When we got to the kitchen, Chef said 'Okay, let's see what you have'. I was nervous. What if she didn't like the lettuce? I wanted her to like it, to 'really really like' it. When the box was opened, she said 'Oh, that's beautiful'. Talk about a proud farmer. Phew!
